A Letter from our AMAA Director
YOUR ALLIANCE FAMILY
I am constantly awed by the membership of this organization. I don’t know why I should be, though, knowing the commitment and caliber of members we have and how much they care about the family of medicine – not only their family, but ALL medical families across the country.
At every level of this wonderful organization, we are focusing our efforts on direct member service and the value that Alliance membership brings to the medical family. At the same time, we are exploring the right tools for retaining and recruiting members. It is perhaps more difficult for us at all levels than at any time in our collective history because of what I call the “perfect storm” for the Alliance. With the debate on health system reform, the “domestic partner” issue and the economy, we seem to have the trifecta of issues that we must face together.
When it comes down to basics, basic values and benefits of belonging to this Alliance, however, I think we all agree that we have a unique family bond. When our county alliance found one of our medical families had a health crisis in Colorado, we contacted a Colorado past state alliance president who was on the phone immediately contacting physicians and county alliance members to help our medical family friends. We had their support from the very beginning. When a California county member had a family member crossing the country to my state, Texas, she contacted me, and I was so glad to help as needed.
A part of my heart is in California since my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter live here. I am grateful for the California Medical Alliance and the friendships I have made. I have a sense of connection to family there, not just my family, but the medical family.
What are the benefits of being a member of a national organization? Nationwide support is an important factor -support for and from the medical families across this country, support for your family perhaps one day when it is needed. It certainly brings the families of this great country of ours a little closer together when our medical families are in need.
The national association is going through a strategic change to focus people, opportunities and resources on the medical family. We need your help and your support to continue the changes for the family of medicine. We are fortunate to have several California alliance members on our board and committees. I want to say thank you to them and to you for sharing such talented leadership. I hope you will take the opportunity and join at all three levels of your medical alliance family. I promise you’ll find benefits you can share with your family and your community no matter where you live or where you travel,
Sincerely,
Pat Hyer
Director, AMA Alliance
